The ns2jb Exploit Claims to Run Native Code on Switch 2 Firmware 23.0.1 Without a Modchip
A developer named pepsipu is said to have built a tethered Switch 2 jailbreak that modded Mario Kart World with Hatsune Miku and Peter Griffin.

A Switch 2 jailbreak with no modchip
A Switch 2 exploit called ns2jb is said to work on firmware 23.0.1 without a hardware modchip, and it is claimed to have been developed by developer pepsipu. [1][2] The publication reached out to Nintendo for comment. [3]
The new jailbreak is also said to be able to evade Nintendo's online checks. [3]
What the exploit does
The developer says ns2jb allows native code to run with access useful for homebrew development, game research, save backups, and modding. [2] The exploit eventually allowed native code execution with higher system permissions. [2]
The hack reportedly took about two weeks of what the creator calls substantial effort. [3]
Tethered, so not custom firmware
The exploit is tethered: it does not survive a reboot and does not provide a persistent custom firmware solution. [2] The jailbreak is not yet custom firmware because the exploit is tethered and must be performed every time. [3]
The SmileBASIC 4 entry point
The exploit takes advantage of an eShop title, SmileBoom's SmileBASIC 4. [1] SmileBoom has been making SmileBASIC for Nintendo platforms since 2011, starting on the 3DS. [1]
SmileBoom may have to stop publishing SmileBASIC 4 because of the exploit. [1]
The Mario Kart World demo
The demonstration modified Mario Kart World to add custom characters including Cinnamoroll, Hatsune Miku, Peter Griffin, and Red from Angry Birds. [2] Centro Leaks reposted a video clip in which Peter Griffin and Hatsune Miku are shown modded into Mario Kart World. [3]
Developer Gezine revealed a separate universal exploit affecting the original Switch and Switch 2. [2] He says he spoke with pepsipu and that the work seems legit. [2]
How Nintendo has handled this before
The original Switch 1 was cracked via hardware in a way Nintendo could not patch out, and Nintendo could only fix it in further manufacturing. [3] Nintendo came down hard on people selling pre-jailbroken Switch consoles. [3]
What it means for you
If you use a Switch 2 on firmware 23.0.1, this is the version the exploit is said to work on. [2] It does not need a hardware modchip, but it must be performed every time because it is tethered. [2][3]
If you want a persistent custom firmware, ns2jb does not provide one. [2] If you own SmileBASIC 4, note that SmileBoom may have to stop publishing it because of the exploit. [1]
