World of Warcraft: Forever Name Reservations Are Live, But Only Bundle Buyers Can Use Them
Character creation is open for up to three characters, and a first-and-last-name rule and a no-transfer policy make your choices count.

Who can reserve a name
Character creation and name reservations for World of Warcraft: Forever are live. [1] If you pre-purchased one of the game bundles, you can reserve a name now, but players planning to start on November 4 with an existing WoW subscription cannot. [2]
The Skyborne Heroic Pack grants access to the game's new optional playable race, the Skyborne elves. [1] Players can create and name up to three characters ahead of launch day. [1]
How to reserve
To reserve a name, open the Battle.net app, install the game (or update it if an update is shown), and launch the game once reservations open. [2] You then select a ruleset (PvP, RP, or Normal) and create up to three characters, choosing class, race, appearance, and name. [2]
Graphics settings let you toggle between new and old character models. [2]
European realm reservations were supposed to open earlier on the same day. [2] A technical issue that had not been resolved delayed them, so EU players could not yet reserve names. [2]
First names, last names and secondary names
Unlike other versions of WoW, Forever requires both a first name and a last name for characters. [1] Those last names make it easier to get a name close to the one you want. [2]
Forever also adds secondary names, a feature no previous WoW version has included. [3] Lore-appropriate examples include Rockbrew, Cogsprocket, and Moonleaf. [3]
Some clan names such as Runetotem appear to be restricted, while others such as Shadowsong are acceptable. [3]
Choices that stick
Once the game is live, Blizzard said characters cannot be transferred between rulesets. [1] On player vs. player rulesets, only characters of a single faction can be created on that ruleset, so the Alliance or Horde choice matters. [1]
Around the launch
The Forever beta had ended and the game was about a week from release when this article was written. [1] The beta had been extended to 10 AM PDT on October 23. [1]
Blizzard is releasing major changes to racial abilities, promises to improve the controversial layering system, and added another server option at the last minute. [1] Forever will also be fully playable on a controller, which is a first for WoW. [1]
Blizzard released a PvP-focused animated music video for Forever showing a Horde and Alliance battle with a nu-metal soundtrack performed by Amy Lee, Poppy, and Courtney LaPlante. [1]
What this means for you
If you pre-purchased a bundle, you can open Battle.net, install or update the game, and reserve up to three character names. [2][1] If you are using an existing WoW subscription, you cannot reserve names. [2]
Pick your ruleset with care, because Blizzard said characters cannot be transferred between rulesets and a PvP ruleset allows only one faction. [1] If you play on EU realms, you could not yet reserve names when this was written because of the unresolved technical issue. [2]
