Published 2026-10-26 · Gaming & Streamers, [skoop.news](https://skoop.news/) ## In brief - The Elden Ring movie is reportedly budgeted at $200 million, which matters to every fan waiting on FromSoftware's fantasy game to reach the big screen [[1]](https://kotaku.com/with-a-marvel-sized-budget-elden-ring-will-be-a24s-most-expensive-movie-to-date-2000749383). - The figure is not final, according to sources cited by the Wall Street Journal, who put it around $200 million [[3]](https://www.mensjournal.com/entertainment/the-elden-ring-movie-is-a24s-most-expensive-film-with-200-million-budget). - Before Elden Ring, A24's most expensive film was Marty Supreme, which cost around $70 million to make and was released in 2025 [[1]](https://kotaku.com/with-a-marvel-sized-budget-elden-ring-will-be-a24s-most-expensive-movie-to-date-2000749383) [[3]](https://www.mensjournal.com/entertainment/the-elden-ring-movie-is-a24s-most-expensive-film-with-200-million-budget). ## A $200 million bet on the Lands Between The Elden Ring movie is reportedly budgeted at $200 million, which matters to every fan waiting on FromSoftware's fantasy game to reach the big screen [[1]](https://kotaku.com/with-a-marvel-sized-budget-elden-ring-will-be-a24s-most-expensive-movie-to-date-2000749383). The Wall Street Journal reports it will be A24's most expensive movie to date [[1]](https://kotaku.com/with-a-marvel-sized-budget-elden-ring-will-be-a24s-most-expensive-movie-to-date-2000749383). A source told the paper the film has the budget of a Marvel movie [[1]](https://kotaku.com/with-a-marvel-sized-budget-elden-ring-will-be-a24s-most-expensive-movie-to-date-2000749383). The studio is reportedly sparing no expense on the project [[1]](https://kotaku.com/with-a-marvel-sized-budget-elden-ring-will-be-a24s-most-expensive-movie-to-date-2000749383). The Journal described an adaptation scheduled for 2028 that costs nearly $200 million [[2]](https://www.polygon.com/elden-ring-movie-budget/). ## What the budget figure means The figure is not final, according to sources cited by the Wall Street Journal, who put it around $200 million [[3]](https://www.mensjournal.com/entertainment/the-elden-ring-movie-is-a24s-most-expensive-film-with-200-million-budget). If it holds, the film would be the most expensive A24 has ever produced [[3]](https://www.mensjournal.com/entertainment/the-elden-ring-movie-is-a24s-most-expensive-film-with-200-million-budget). That budget makes it comparable to big-budget theatrical blockbusters rather than the lower-budget films A24 is known for [[3]](https://www.mensjournal.com/entertainment/the-elden-ring-movie-is-a24s-most-expensive-film-with-200-million-budget). Elden Ring is expected to be A24's first true blockbuster [[2]](https://www.polygon.com/elden-ring-movie-budget/). It is also A24's first foray into video game adaptations [[1]](https://kotaku.com/with-a-marvel-sized-budget-elden-ring-will-be-a24s-most-expensive-movie-to-date-2000749383). ## How it compares with A24's past hits Before Elden Ring, A24's most expensive film was Marty Supreme, which cost around $70 million to make and was released in 2025 [[1]](https://kotaku.com/with-a-marvel-sized-budget-elden-ring-will-be-a24s-most-expensive-movie-to-date-2000749383) [[3]](https://www.mensjournal.com/entertainment/the-elden-ring-movie-is-a24s-most-expensive-film-with-200-million-budget). It more than doubled that investment [[1]](https://kotaku.com/with-a-marvel-sized-budget-elden-ring-will-be-a24s-most-expensive-movie-to-date-2000749383). Backrooms is A24's only film to make more than $200 million so far, and it cost $10 million to produce [[1]](https://kotaku.com/with-a-marvel-sized-budget-elden-ring-will-be-a24s-most-expensive-movie-to-date-2000749383). A24 is also developing a film based on Death Stranding, with no current release schedule [[1]](https://kotaku.com/with-a-marvel-sized-budget-elden-ring-will-be-a24s-most-expensive-movie-to-date-2000749383). ## Cast, crew and timeline Alex Garland directs the Elden Ring movie [[2]](https://www.polygon.com/elden-ring-movie-budget/). It is produced by A24 Films with Bandai Namco Filmworks [[3]](https://www.mensjournal.com/entertainment/the-elden-ring-movie-is-a24s-most-expensive-film-with-200-million-budget). Emma Laird, Tom Burke, Jonathan Pryce, Kit Connor, Cailee Spaeny and Nick Offerman are attached [[3]](https://www.mensjournal.com/entertainment/the-elden-ring-movie-is-a24s-most-expensive-film-with-200-million-budget). Kit Connor, Cailee Spaeny and Nick Offerman are expected to star in undisclosed roles [[2]](https://www.polygon.com/elden-ring-movie-budget/). The movie was originally announced to be in production in May 2025 [[3]](https://www.mensjournal.com/entertainment/the-elden-ring-movie-is-a24s-most-expensive-film-with-200-million-budget). Filming finished in July 2026 [[3]](https://www.mensjournal.com/entertainment/the-elden-ring-movie-is-a24s-most-expensive-film-with-200-million-budget). It is planned to release in theaters in May 2028 [[3]](https://www.mensjournal.com/entertainment/the-elden-ring-movie-is-a24s-most-expensive-film-with-200-million-budget). ## A dark game in a family-friendly genre Video game movies are more often family-friendly offerings, such as Minecraft, Super Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog, rather than dark films like Elden Ring [[1]](https://kotaku.com/with-a-marvel-sized-budget-elden-ring-will-be-a24s-most-expensive-movie-to-date-2000749383). Elden Ring is expected to feel more like an A24 film than a typical blockbuster [[2]](https://www.polygon.com/elden-ring-movie-budget/). George R.R. Martin wrote many aspects of the Elden Ring world and overall backstory, giving developers a foundation to build around [[3]](https://www.mensjournal.com/entertainment/the-elden-ring-movie-is-a24s-most-expensive-film-with-200-million-budget). A24 is reportedly worth over $3.5 billion and is looking for ways to stay independent as it grows [[2]](https://www.polygon.com/elden-ring-movie-budget/). ## What it means for you If you play Elden Ring, mark May 2028 as the planned theatrical release [[3]](https://www.mensjournal.com/entertainment/the-elden-ring-movie-is-a24s-most-expensive-film-with-200-million-budget). Plot details have not been revealed [[3]](https://www.mensjournal.com/entertainment/the-elden-ring-movie-is-a24s-most-expensive-film-with-200-million-budget). The budget figure is not final, so treat the $200 million number as a report [[3]](https://www.mensjournal.com/entertainment/the-elden-ring-movie-is-a24s-most-expensive-film-with-200-million-budget) [[1]](https://kotaku.com/with-a-marvel-sized-budget-elden-ring-will-be-a24s-most-expensive-movie-to-date-2000749383). ## Sources 1.
