The new release date

The Final Fantasy XIV expansion Evercold has been delayed by about a month, which matters to every player waiting on the next big update. [1] It was originally set for sometime in January 2027, and the full launch is now set for February 23, 2027. [1]

Square Enix had put out the January 2027 release window, and the February date is described as a slight delay from it. [2] Evercold is scheduled to launch on Tuesday, February 23, 2027. [2]

Naoki Yoshida gave the keynote at Final Fantasy XIV Fan Fest Japan, where he announced the official Evercold release date. [2] He also revealed never-before-seen footage of the expansion. [2]

Pre-orders and early access

Pre-orders for Evercold open on November 4, 2026, which is a Wednesday. [1][2] Anyone who pre-orders in any edition gets early access to the expansion starting Friday, February 19, 2027. [1]

That puts the start of early access for pre-order buyers on February 19, 2027, four days before the full launch. [2][1]

Evercold will come to all Final Fantasy XIV Online platforms, including the newly released Nintendo Switch 2 version. [2]

The story and the new jobs

Evercold has a third and final teaser trailer, a six-minute cinematic that sets up the narrative stakes for the game's biggest update in nearly three years. [1] The story opens with a young girl asking about the Promised Land, and a wise old lady recalls a time of beauty and abundance that gave way to relentless ice as magical beasts took over the mainland. [1]

In the story, people abandoned the continent for the skies above. [1] The expansion features massive city-sized airships called Realmships. [1]

Sessyrmnir is a Realmship of Earth shown in the expansion's new areas. [2] It is one of the Fourth's five massive airships, with a surface large enough to hold settlements and fields. [2]

The new tank job Bastion wields gunshields called Skyltborgs. [1] Yoshida unveiled Zephyr as the game's next new job during the Fan Fest keynote. [2]

Zephyr is a ranged DPS job that fights with a crossbow and an avian familiar. [2] It received its own trailer giving a quick explanation of how it will work. [1]

More from Fan Fest

Deep dives into new locations and other changes coming with version 8.0 in Evercold were shown at Fan Fest. [1] Square Enix also announced a Neon Evangelion crossover event for 2027. [1]

If you plan to play Evercold, the launch date to mark is February 23, 2027, and it is a month later than the January window. [1][2] Pre-orders open on November 4, 2026. [1]
