[[1]](https://www.flickeringmyth.com/death-stranding-isolations-trailer-offers-first-look-at-kojima-productions-anime-series/) If you play the games, the main change is the cast. Isolations was announced in 2025 as an original net anime with new protagonists, different from those of Death Stranding and Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. [[2]](https://www.polygon.com/hideo-kojima-death-stranding-isolations-anime-first-trailer/) The anime expands the world of the Death Stranding game and explores the story of four survivors in a post-cataclysmic North America. [[1]](https://www.flickeringmyth.com/death-stranding-isolations-trailer-offers-first-look-at-kojima-productions-anime-series/) Hideo Kojima serves as executive producer of the series. [[3]](https://hypebeast.com/2026/10/kojima-productions-death-stranding-isolations-anime-first-trailer-hulu-disney-plus-release-info) ## What the trailer shows The teaser shifts attention away from Sam Bridges toward an unnamed young girl who lost her mother to the Death Stranding. [[3]](https://hypebeast.com/2026/10/kojima-productions-death-stranding-isolations-anime-first-trailer-hulu-disney-plus-release-info) In the first trailer, a blonde girl, one of the two main characters, is tormented by visions of Beached Things (BTs), the souls of the dead stranded in the world of the living. [[2]](https://www.polygon.com/hideo-kojima-death-stranding-isolations-anime-first-trailer/) The trailer also shows a boy consumed by anger, a female soldier trapped in a cycle of conflict, and an older man seeking his own way of connecting people. [[3]](https://hypebeast.com/2026/10/kojima-productions-death-stranding-isolations-anime-first-trailer-hulu-disney-plus-release-info) The footage is rendered in E&H production's hand-drawn 2D style. [[3]](https://hypebeast.com/2026/10/kojima-productions-death-stranding-isolations-anime-first-trailer-hulu-disney-plus-release-info) The trailer's subtitle, about a mom who became a crater, refers to the voidouts, the massive explosions triggered when a BT consumes a human. [[2]](https://www.polygon.com/hideo-kojima-death-stranding-isolations-anime-first-trailer/) ## The four survivors The series is set in North America immediately after Sam, the game's protagonist, reconnects the continent through the Chiral Network. [[1]](https://www.flickeringmyth.com/death-stranding-isolations-trailer-offers-first-look-at-kojima-productions-anime-series/) The cataclysm itself consisted of explosions caused when the dead crept into the world of the living and collided with the living. [[1]](https://www.flickeringmyth.com/death-stranding-isolations-trailer-offers-first-look-at-kojima-productions-anime-series/) After that event, many people were forced to live in absolute isolation, including a young girl. [[1]](https://www.flickeringmyth.com/death-stranding-isolations-trailer-offers-first-look-at-kojima-productions-anime-series/) She grows to prefer solitude and eschews opportunities for real human connection. [[1]](https://www.flickeringmyth.com/death-stranding-isolations-trailer-offers-first-look-at-kojima-productions-anime-series/) Chance encounters then launch her headfirst into a world she does not recognize. [[1]](https://www.flickeringmyth.com/death-stranding-isolations-trailer-offers-first-look-at-kojima-productions-anime-series/) Three other characters round out the group. The series features a wise old man who connects people through a method that defies all reckoning. [[1]](https://www.flickeringmyth.com/death-stranding-isolations-trailer-offers-first-look-at-kojima-productions-anime-series/) It also has a female soldier ensnared in a cycle of war and destruction. [[1]](https://www.flickeringmyth.com/death-stranding-isolations-trailer-offers-first-look-at-kojima-productions-anime-series/) The fourth is a boy who seethes with rage at the absurdity of his life. [[1]](https://www.flickeringmyth.com/death-stranding-isolations-trailer-offers-first-look-at-kojima-productions-anime-series/) ## The team behind it The anime will be animated by E&H Production, a relatively new animation studio founded by MAPPA veteran Sunghoo Park. [[2]](https://www.polygon.com/hideo-kojima-death-stranding-isolations-anime-first-trailer/) The screenplay comes from Tow Ubukata, a novelist and screenwriter famous for Psycho-Pass 2 and 3. [[2]](https://www.polygon.com/hideo-kojima-death-stranding-isolations-anime-first-trailer/) ## Other Death Stranding projects Isolations is one of several projects beyond the games. Michael Sarnoski will write and direct a movie for A24 that will act as a prequel to the Death Stranding games. [[2]](https://www.polygon.com/hideo-kojima-death-stranding-isolations-anime-first-trailer/) Another animated feature, tentatively titled Death Stranding Mosquito, is in the works, with Aaron Guzikowski attached to write and Hiroshi Miyamoto as director. [[2]](https://www.polygon.com/hideo-kojima-death-stranding-isolations-anime-first-trailer/) ## What this means for you If you have played Death Stranding or Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, you can expect different protagonists in Isolations. [[2]](https://www.polygon.com/hideo-kojima-death-stranding-isolations-anime-first-trailer/) The story picks up in North America right after Sam reconnects the continent through the Chiral Network. [[1]](https://www.flickeringmyth.com/death-stranding-isolations-trailer-offers-first-look-at-kojima-productions-anime-series/) The teaser is available now, and it shows the hand-drawn 2D style from E&H Production that the series will use. [[1]](https://www.flickeringmyth.com/death-stranding-isolations-trailer-offers-first-look-at-kojima-productions-anime-series/) [[3]](https://hypebeast.com/2026/10/kojima-productions-death-stranding-isolations-anime-first-trailer-hulu-disney-plus-release-info) If you want to know who is behind the series, check the names attached: Tow Ubukata on the screenplay, E&H Production on animation and Hideo Kojima as executive producer.
